Silicone oil 705
overview
Silicone 705 is a pentaphenyltrimethyltrisiloxane based oil for generating UHV in the range 10-9 to 10-11 mbar, characterized by extremely low vapor pressure and backflow rates.
This oil exhibits extreme chemical, heat, oxidation, hydrolysis and radiation resistance.
applications
Silicone 705 is intended for use in applications where ultra-high and ultra-clean vacuum conditions are required. The UHV characteristics are particularly useful in thin films, surface engineering, thermonuclear and plasma physics applications, and electron microscopy. Thanks to its extreme stability and high temperature during spontaneous ignition, it is ideally suited for use in space simulation chambers. Its low vapor pressure and low backflow rate eliminates the need for refrigeration and freezing traps for pressures in the 10-8 mbar range. With a liquid nitrogen trap, however, ultimate pressures of 10-11 mbar can be achieved.
